About

Peter, Zach, Chris, John, Alyssa, and Greg

This band came together at the Barrel House Blues Jam, where a shared love of blues, soul, and live music sparked something special. Barrel House Blues Band plays the last Wednesday of every month at the Bloomington VFW. 6:30-9:30 PM. It is a large group of wonderful players who take turns rotating in to play each month.

Meet The Band

After attempting to play the kazoo as a toddler, Chris later picked up the guitar and instantly fell in love with the blues. He has played in numerous bands and enjoys performing rock and blues covers and originals. He plays many styles and genuinely enjoys the jam, because it’s about making music with friends. Hope you enjoy the show!

Greg Connor has a background in Folk / Americana.  His father played several instruments and encouraged Greg to play by giving him a two-sided Echo Harp harmonica on his 7th birthday to accompany his father while playing Hank Williams and other old country songs.

Greg started playing guitar when he was 10, bought his first Electric guitar soon after, and formed a few bands in High School.  College brought the folk scene, and Greg traded his Gibson SG for an acoustic guitar and remains an acoustic player, for the most part, to this day.

Today, Greg plays harmonica and guitar in the band.  Outside the band, his world includes most folk instruments and a significant collection of Irish Whistles.

Music has been a lifelong passion for Alyssa. She has spent years performing with Twin Cities house bands and entertaining audiences. Along the way, she appeared on Star Search and had the opportunity to perform in a long-running show at the iconic Flamingo in Las Vegas. Inspired by blues, soul, folk, and classic favorites, Alyssa loves the energy of live music and the joy of sharing great songs with a crowd.

Zach picked up the bass at 13 after his older sister bought one and decided it was better suited for him. He spent his teens and early twenties playing in rock bands, picking up musical tips and tricks along the way. In college, he took guitar lessons and began branching out into other styles and instruments. These days, he enjoys playing multiple genres of music, home recording, and the collaborative and improvisational aspect of playing the blues.

John was inspired to become a drummer after seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. He developed his chops by joining his high school jazz band, taking drum lessons, and playing in rock and country bands as a teenager. John has propelled many local original bands with his happy beats at live shows and on many albums. He accepted the best new band award at the Carlton Room in 1984. John has toured the country extensively, playing on many iconic stages. He has played with many national artists, Rockie Lynne, John Cale, Joey Molland, Jim Carroll, Kermit Ruffin, Steve Holland…The magic of the band’s chemistry and the connection with the audience at a live gig drives his passion for music.

Peter describes himself as “a middle-aged man with nominal talent seeking blues music stardom.” The rest of the band strongly disagrees with that assessment. A longtime presence in the original rock scene, Pete has performed with groups including Slim Civilian, No Man Stranger, The Hundredth Monkey, The Splits, and Sidecar. Over the years, he’s shared the stage with some incredible musicians and continues chasing that blues groove that keeps audiences smiling. While he jokes that he hasn’t managed to hold onto the coat-tails of greatness tightly enough to make it into the big leagues, we’re pretty sure he’s been underselling himself all along. We hope you enjoy his singing as much as we enjoy having him in the band.
